Perform Closer to the Edge Without Going Over It
Russell Coutts is the CEO of the Oracle Racing Team and is preparing his team for the prestigious America’s Cup, a world series of regattas. After he and the team capsized their boat in the San Francisco Bay yesterday, I found it interesting what this captain had to say about the incident.
“You’ve got to get to the point of finding the edge and not going over the edge, and sometimes you’re going to go over the edge. That applies not only in a sailing sense — we’re challenged as sailors like never before, probably, in these boats—but in the design sense. Because the closer you design it to the edge, the faster it will go.”
As a leader striving for your best performance, are you pushing closer to the edge to find out what you’re capable of every single day or are you striving for ease? Anywhere Leaders find the edge.
